I have a Porter Cable random orbit sander/polisher with the 6" mounting bracket and Meguair's pads. The buffer cost about $110 from Lowes (about the cheapest price around).

$110 for a 6" buffer/polisher is a little too pricey for me. why is porter cable so expensive
Same set up I have. It is pricey because you will never buy another one.Originally posted by AkronSi

The Porter Cable is a dream to use. If you're cheap, Home Depot has a 10" for $20.00 by Ryobi. Look underneath the Router display.

I want to get the Porter-Cable polisher also. Your link is to the model 7336. There is also a 7428 model that appears to be a polisher only, that is very similar. Do you have the 7336 or the 7428? Does it make a difference?
I have the 7336. It has the 6 inch backing plate and counterweight. Mine also came with one polishing pad. I'm not sure about the 7428. That one might have a 5 inch backing plate and counterweight. Most of the polishing/cutting/finishing pads are available in 6 inch diameters so you'll ultimately need a 6" backing plate and counterweight.
Also, the stock backing plate that came with mine wasn't velcro so I bought a conversion/replacement kit and just glued the velcro onto the plate. Now I can use any of the Meguiar's or CMA pads. It only cost a couple bucks and saves you from having to buy a totally new backing plate.
Hope that helps.
I got a Turtle Wax 6"... Works pretty good.
Thanks for your help. I think the 7428 comes with the velcro backing plate but no sanding plate, but I am not exactly sure.Originally posted by AkronSi
